Notes, manuscripts and records collated for Montagu's intended and actual publications

CP/MONT/2. Montagu wrote two volumes of an autobiography; however, only the first volume was published. The second volume of this autobiography can be found here as a draft manuscript and alongside prelimary notes for both volumes of this text. Montagu also visited Europe as both a sympathetic Communist and as a collector of animals for exhibition in The British Museum of Natural History; his records from these excursions can be found here. Some of Montagu's transcripts for works yet to be published are included here and they include manuscript notes for his three lectures on social change.

Montagu's transcript and manuscript of film script for 'Message to Erna Kremer', 1941

CP/IND/MONT/2/12. This script is based upon a description of a radio broadcast, printed in the press, which is also included here. In the report a message is broadcast to a German wife from Russia via a radio broadcast; the message broadcast to a Erna Kremer informs her that her husband has been shot by the Russian army and died in a Russian hospital. Kremer is then told to 'tell people that enough blood has been spilt'. Montagu's script is an imagining of how this broadcast might have been recieved by the wife who thereby learns that she is a widow.

Notebook with Manuscript of Communist Party pamphlet Nato - No!, 1969

CP/IND/MONT/2/13. This draft pamphlet argues against NATO, claiming that whilst NATO was portayed as an organisation designed to promote peace between member countries including Western Germany, it was actually formed to undermine and threaten the Soviet Union. Montagu also argues that the reason Russia didn't invade and conquer the rest of a greatly weakened Europe after World War Two was that 'it wouldn't have been cricket' and uses this as apparent evidence of Russia not being a real threat to Europe.
