Idris Cox, 1899-1989, leading South Wales Communist

CP/IND/MISC/2/3: TS memoirs, Personal and Political Recollections (60pp), covering the period to 1941 and written in c1960. The memoirs describe Cox's childhood, work in the pits, activities in the Miners' Federation and Maesteg Labour Party, attendance at the Central Labour College, his recruitment to the CP, the General Strike, CP congresses, the debates over the introduction of the CP's policy of Class Against Class, the 6th Congress of the Comintern, full-time work as a CP functionary, 11th CP Congress 1929, woollen and coal strikes, the January Resolution and anti-Fascist activities.

Stephen Bodington, 1909-1989, Communist political economist

CP/IND/MISC/2/4: TS memorandum on American Economy today and during the last war with special reference to Anglo-American relations, September 1939. There is no indication as to whom the memorandum was intended for, but in the late 1930s Bodington worked for the Labour Research Department.

Lee, June-July 1918; NSP circular letters, including appeal for the To Kill Bolshevism special propaganda fund; letter from its central branch. CP/IND/MISC/2/6: Papers re re-launched Social Democratic Federation, including a duplicated draft programme, 1921, executive reports and agendas; conference agenda and related materials, 1922; correspondence with Thomas Kennedy and W.A. Woodroffe, SDF secretary and assistant secretary; correspondence with the Islington branch SDF, with a branch leaflet and circular. CP/IND/MISC/2/7: Papers relating to the H.M. Hyndman Memorial Committee and Memorial Fund, Hyndman Literary Fund and Literary Trust including circular letters and agendas, 1922-1923. CP/IND/MISC/2/8: Papers on the National Council of Labour Colleges incl. correspondence with George Phippen, London divisional organiser; NCLC printed annual report 1923-1924. CP/IND/MISC/2/9: Correspondence with Rosalind Travers Hyndman (19 items), widow of H.M. Hyndman, including Mahon's copy letters (2), with Mahon's MS statement on R.T. Hyndman's death and post-mortem, 1923. CP/IND/MISC/2/10: Correspondence with Adolphe Smith (15 items) and related papers including correspondence regarding Smith's final illness and death, 1923-1925. CP/IND/MISC/2/11: Other miscellaneous correspondence including cards and a letter from Ernest Belfort Bax (9 items, 1923-25); letter from Joseph Clayton (1921); letters from H.M. Hyndman (3 items, 1918-21); letters from H.W. Lee, editor of Justice (11 items, 1918-24); letters from George Middleton, editor of the Post (6 items, 1924-25).

Chris Myant, sometime assistant editor, Morning Star, and editor, Seven Days

CP/IND/MISC/2/12: Papers relating to the Morning Star and People's Press Printing Society including minutes, agendas and related papers of the PPPS management committee with Myant's notes on meetings he attended; correspondence on Myant being elected to the management committee; TS reports of Morning Star advertising and circulation departments, miscellaneous papers regarding the paper's survival plan, internal memoranda, etc. Most of the papers date from Myant's election to the management committee in mid-1984. CP/IND/MISC/2/13: Reports to the CP Executive Committee regarding Seven Days, Sept, 1985, November 1985, March 1986, January 1989. CP/IND/MISC/2/14: Miscellaneous undated notes, 1980s.
