Satire by Baron Richard Austen Butler of Saffron Walden and engagement diaries of Ivor Montagu |
|
CP/IND/MONT/1/5. The engagement diaries of Ivor Montagu, 1959-1963, are prefaced here by a satirical description of a debate in which Ivor Montagu participated. The author of this striking article in 'The Gownsman', under the heading 'Union Notes', alludes to the river 'Cam' and advises on how participants 'would make it less dull for the President'. Whilst it is unsigned, it is dated 3rd May, 1924. The President of Cambridge Union Society in May 1924 was the man then known as Mr. Richard Austen Butler, later Baron Richard Austen Butler of Saffron Walden. |

Unidentified photographs, [n.d.] |
